 MINExpo International 2008

For 3 days every 4 years the eyes of the mining world are focused on
Las Vegas, Nevada and MINExpo, the premier exposition of mining
equipment and services in the world. More than 1,200 exhibitors displayed the state-of-the-art in mining with
displays covering more than 568,000 square feet of exhibit space making
this the largest MINExpo ever held. Although the 2008 edition will be the
sixth MINExpo, the show actually dates back to the 1920s. The American
Mining Congress and the National Coal Association held separate shows for
minerals and coal that alternated every two years. The two shows were
combined in 1988 with the two associations combining in 1996, creating
the National Mining Association which now runs MINExpo. If you were unable to make it this time around, be sure to mark your
calendars for the next MINExpo, September 24 thru 26, 2012. My Convention Statistics Images taken: 2,906. Distance walked: 23.75 miles. and was located at Caesars Palace. Cat Central held the HSEC forum and
dinner, dealer briefings and F-Series haul truck launch. There was also the
Cat Connection Point that had a number of Internet connected
computers and printers for special guest use.
Norscot produced a great "mini scale" Caterpillar mechanical drive 793F
with a MSD2 dump body to commemorate the launch of the F-Series
mining sized trucks.
Caterpillar also distributed what I think was the best brochure of the
convention after the F-Series mining truck meeting.
Special Event: Caterpillar's "Mine Site @ Night" dinner at Rio. Caterpillar held the 2008 "Mine Site @ Night" at a special venue on the
grounds of the Rio hotel and casino for special invited guests. Once
there you were treated to unique equipment and service displays with
hospitality that was second to none. The dinner was a buffet that had
American and Asian offerings with the evenings entertainment coming
from "The Men of the Deeps". They are a choir of working and retired
underground coal miners from the island of Cape Brenton in Nova Scotia.
John Heller, vice president and chief information officer of Caterpillar
provided the closing remarks at the end of the festivities. It was a wonderful night and a perfect way to cap off the 2008 MINExpo
week. Equipment Caterpillar: D10T, 24M, 793A (badged as a B) 100,000 hour unit, scale

milestone and the 2008 Caterpillar "Mine Site @ Night" evening.
2008 marks the 30th anniversary of Caterpillar's high drive design. The
gentlemen at the D10T randomly handed out this commemorative coin
to mark the anniversary.
