 Contractor Profile: Brandenburg

Brandenburg Industrial Service Company, established in 1968, has grown
to be the largest demolition firm in the United States with a with a staff in
excess of 700 permanent full time employees and an estimated 2008
revenue of $215 million. They are capable of self performing
dynamic compaction, environmental abatement and remediation,
excavation, scrap management, site preparation, structural demolition,
equipment salvage, rigging and soil remediation. Brandenburg maintains
4 regional offices. Although they are purposely situated in heavy
industrial regions of the country, they are capable of rapidly mobilizing
their demolition fleet any location within North America and beyond. The
4 locations/divisions are: Illinois Division: The company headquarters, located in Chicago,
provides full range engineering services along with fleet maintenance

Indiana Division: Located in Gary. Engineering services provided
here include electrical design, piping design and environmental
assessment as well as CAD support. The yard area includes a scrap
processing facility with material arriving and departing by both rail and
road. Fleet maintenance, fabrication, assembly and storage are also
loacted here. Michigan Division: Located outside of Detroit in Lincoln Park and has
2 sites. The main location provides electrical, mechanical, structural and
environmental engineering services along with fleet maintenance,
storage and supply storage. The 2nd location serves as a scrap
processing site with material arriving and shipping by both rail and road.
This site also includes a fleet storage area. Pennsylvania Division: Located in Bethlehem and also has 2 separate
sites. The main location provides electrical, mechanical, structural and
environmental engineering services along with fleet maintenance,
storage and supply storage. The 2nd location serves as a scrap
processing site with material arriving and shipping by both rail and road.
This location also includes a fleet storage area. One of the keys to Brandenburg's success is an impeccably maintained
fleet of front line and support equipment. The excavator fleet is made up
exclusively of Liebherr excavators that have been modified and
customized to meet their own rigid specifications and currently stands at
more than 75 units. Each are wired and plumbed to use a host of
attachments including various bucket configurations, demolition hammers,
grapples, impact hammers, magnets, processors and shears. Another
unique aspect of the equipment fleet are the attachments themselves.
Brandenburg designs and fabricates in-house the excavator booms, sticks
and attachments with the exception of the Atlas Copco impact hammers
and Stanley|LaBounty processors and shears. The loader attachments,
again with the exception of the Atlas Copco impact hammers and
Stanley|LaBounty shears, are also designed and fabricated in-house along
with the scrap hauling trailers and rail cars in the Brandenburg fleet. Another key to Brandenburg's success is safety. They maintain a safety
staff with 8 safety engineers and includes a certified hazardous materials
manager, certified industrial hygienist, OSHA construction outreach
trainers, and 2 two former OSHA compliance officers. They were the first
demolition contractor in the United States to successfully complete the
OSHA Challenge Program and be certified a Star Member in OSHA’s
Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Then on January 21, 2009 the
Excel Energy High Bridge project was recognized by OSHA as a MNSTAR
work site. The MNSTAR status exempts the project from scheduled
Minnesota OSHA compliance inspection lists for three years. Brandenburg
was the first demolition contractor to participate in and achieve the
MNSTAR status, which is modeled after the VPP. It has been a rare and fantastic opportunity to view the crew from
Brandenburg Industrial Service Company up close as they work their way
through the former Xcel Energy High Bridge Plant. Once you see them in
action, it is very evident why they are considered the very best in the
industry. Company Logo
