Lowry Avenue Bridge
3 separate bridges have spanned the Mississippi River at this crossing in
Minneapolis, Minnesota since 1887. This, the most recent, will be a 902
foot span and include a 704 foot extension that will cross the Canadian
Pacific Railroad tracks on the west side of the river. The new structure
will have a 400 foot basket-handle steel arch that spans the navigation
channel, pedestrian sidewalks on either side with viewing platforms, a high
efficiency LED lighting system for the steel arch that is color adjustable
and a smart anti-icing system on the road deck.
Lunda Construction, based in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, was awarded
the $80 million project. Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2011.
