Mystic Lake Wind Turbine
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community installed a 1.5 megawatt
wind turbine at its Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The wind
turbine will have a center hub height of 262.4 feet with a rotor diameter
of 247 feet, making the maximum overall height 386 feet when one blade
is in the vertical position. The $1.8 million wind turbine was manufactured
in Changzou, China by Changzhou Railcar Propulsion Engineering
Research and Development Center and once operational it will power 75
percent of the homes in the community.
Truck Crane Service, based in Eagan, Minnesota, received the lifting
contract and dispatched their new flagship 600 ton Kobelco SL6000 for
the turbine assembly. Fleet unit number R6000 was rigged with 335 feet
of main boom and had 500 tons of counterweight for the project. When
fully assembled she weighed in the neighborhood of 1 million pounds.
