Wapsipinicon Wind Project: North
The Wapsipinicon Wind Project (North) was constructed by Mortenson
Construction in Dexter, Minnesota. The project consisted of 67 1.5 MW
General Electric wind turbines covering an area of 40 square miles. The
towers are 262.5 feet in height. The rotor diameter will be 252.6
feet, making the maximum overall height 388.8 feet when one blade is in
the vertical position. The electrical collector system consists of
underground 34.5 kV collection lines and facilities providing step-up
transformation. There is also a 161/34.5 kV substation that has 2
161/34.5 transformers with the associated switching/protection
equipment and metering equipment located in a small control house.
Viet Companies recieved the site preperation contract with MP Nexlevel
contracted to complete the utiliy work.
A small interesting fact about Mortenson Construction: As of 2007 they
have installed 34 percent of all the active wind power in the United States.
