Wayzata Derailment
At 9:23am on June 30, 2010, eastbound Burlington Northern|Santa Fe
coal load C-WTMSUH0-02 derailed in Wayzata, Minnesota while passing
from the siding to the mainline. The fully loaded unit train with 123 DEEX
open hopper cars was loaded at the Powder River Basin in Wyoming and
was scheduled to discharge at the Superior Midwest Energy Terminal in
Superior, Wisconsin. Of the 17 cars that derailed, 3 were upright but off
the track and 14 were off their wheels. Hulcher Services, headquartered
in Denton, Texas, was called in for the emergency removal work.
Shortly after Burlington Northern|Santa Fe contacted the Hulcher call
center, a response plan was finalized and the crew from the Twin Cities
Division, located in Hudson, Wisconsin, was dispatched to the derailment.
The crew was en route Wayzata within 30 minutes of their notification.
Hulcher Services cleared and restored the mainline within 23 hours of the
derailment and the first train, fittingly a unit train, passed through the site
at 8:27am the following day.
Project fact
The crew from Hulcher Services worked 62 hours straight, around the
clock, to complete the Wayzata project. They had 1, 5 hour break to
rest, reset and clean up.

Hulcher's reputation is that they are the very best of the    best and the crew that was dispatched to Wayzata made    sure that reputation was maintained. This was an amazing    opportunity to see them up close and in action. Thank    you for everything and continued success to all. |
